«I''m pleased to announce that your institution will have access to Faculty of 1000 from October 1st for two months. Before the trial gets under way next week I would like to point out a few things which your patrons might find useful.
First of all: Please put us to the test as we believe that there is no quicker and more convenient way to keep up-to-date with the latest and most important research in Biology and Medicine than through F1000.
What is it that we do? Because F1000 is such a specific database, it is not easy to put in few words what we do but here we go: The core service of Faculty of 1000 (F1000) identifies and evaluates the most important articles in Biology and medical research publications. The selection process comprises a peer-nominated global ''Faculty'' of the world''s leading scientists and clinicians who rate the best of the articles they read and explain their importance.
What can F1000 do for me? Researchers have a very good understanding of the latest key articles in their specific research area. F1000 provides a unique and quick information about key findings OUTSIDE this area. The short highlight as opposed to a lengthy description is of particular benefit. On top of this many users appreciate that we also cover journals which they would have never come across (simply because they don''t have time to read them). Many also value a second opinion from a trusted source about an article which they might have come across already.
There are many ways, how people can use F1000, however, we strongly recommend to REGISTER to fully benefit from the service. Only by registering users are able to comment on evaluations, to personalize F1000 and set up email alerts in their specific fields of interest so that whenever a new evaluation is published they will be notified. A PDF detailing the registration process can be found here: http://f1000.com/resources/F1000UserGuide_A4_Final.pdf
Because we recommend thousands and thousands of articles, we cannot provide full text access to all evaluated articles - we provide the evaluations, the information why these articles are important. Because we evaluate articles from so many different sources, providing free access to all those journals would inflate the price of a subscription immensely. For more information please see this link: http://f1000.com/about/using/fulltext
Where can I find a tour through the website? Here is a link with a quick overview about F1000: http://f1000.com/tour
A word about browsers: The F1000 website has been optimized for viewing with Firefox. Users with Internet Explorer 6 might have difficulties viewing some of the content.
Any more questions? I''m sure there will be (e.g. What do the numbers mean? What literature is covered?) and most of them can normally be answered in the ABOUT section: http://f1000.com/about/whatis
Finally, logos, posters, banners, online brochures and other helpful material can be found in the LIBRARY RESOURCES section: http://f1000.com/about/libraries».
